What is the best way to plant acorns?

Will the oak tree start to grow faster if I crack open the acorn and plant the seed, or should I just plant the whole acorn and wait a while for it to grow? Also, about how long will it take to grow? Thanks.

  1. just look around at the tree's&ground, momma nature will show you how its done!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  2. probably the best way is to clear some spot to the dirt, set acorns on the spot then cover with shredded oak leaves. keep it damp but not drenched. do more than one. if you manage to sprout more than one, thin them to one.

    be prepared to wait.

  3. The best and EASIEST way is to just let the squirrels do it for you!  Oh yeah, and you know those little mini tree sapling things in your lawn that you always have to mow down?  Just stop mowing 'em!  It will probably take at least 50 years to get a good-sized forest going, but don't give up.  You can do it!  (LMAO!!!)

  4. I was going to make a wisecrack and suggest you give it to a squirrel to plant for you, but I can see your question is serious.  My gut feeling is that you should plant it whole, but what I think you should really do is to either

    a.  search the internet under something like "growing trees from

seed" or "acorns and oaks" or whatever other words suggest

themselves as you surf.  The net should lead you to some

person or company who could help.

    b.  Call the agricultural extension office in your state or a college

that specializes in agriculture like Purdue University in Indiana.

Good luck.  I hope you grow a lovely oak.
