  1. The best way to practice jumps is on the ice, of course, but if you don't get a lot of ice time, you can still practice them off ice.  Walk through the entrances and work on rotations.  It sounds cheesy, but you can practice a lot with just a pair of socks and a slippery floor......tile, hardwood, linoleum.  3-turns, two-foot turns and some spins can be practiced just on a slippery floor.  And I totally understand what you're saying -- we all seem to be fearless when it comes to jumping without skates on, but once we get to the ice....eeeek!  I try to imitate the weight of my skates by practicing jumps with ankle weights on.  Practice and get comfortable with your waltz jump before you move on to other jumps.  Get comfortable with doing them from crossovers and with a little speed.  Hopefully this will build your confidence for doing other jumps, like your toe loop.  Good luck!

  2. Lessons would be very helpful so that you can learn to do jumps and spins properly. Without proper instruction your chance of injury is much higher, and you can also get into bad habits that are very hard to reverse. Practicing jumps off of the ice is often times helpful in training with skating on the ice. You can practice your entrances and landings by hopping on one foot (this can be funny looking, but helpful). Spins are something that can't really be practiced very well off of the ice. You can certainly practice your spin positions off of the ice, but it is very hard to actually spin without being on ice. Good luck!

  3. the best way to practice jumps is off the ice

if you can do it off ice you can mostly do it on the ice but it might take you awhile

  4. When doing jumps on the ice, you may notice or may not, that your posture slightly changes because you might feel this helps you balance better. However, jumps do not just depend on how high you jump etc. your posture can change everything about a jump. So make sure your posture is correct.

Also on any toepick jumps, put all of your weight on the toepick and then go and jump. You can even rotate a little on the pick and then finish the jump.

For spins make sure you wait enough on your spiralling edge for it to come around then pull everyhing together. Make sure you don't fall to the side. Spins, unlike jumps need you to practice office. It really helps, unlike jumps.
