I am in my early 20s, and would like to get a head start on preparing to become a great parent. What are some practical, professional and sound ways to approach this task?

  2. I'm not sure that you ever really can "prepare" to be a good parent. It comes as you go, and with us mothers.. it's instinct. Comes by nature. Every chid is different as is every parent. I do understand where you are coming from though, while I was pregnant with my first I read all the what to expect when your expecting and so on....

They also make a what to expect with toddler years, and etc... if it would help you to read those, go for it. I felt like it helped me.

    Good Luck.

  3. Well, I'm a daughter myself, so maybe I can help! The best thing I can think of is to spend as much time with kids as possible. Maybe babysit for friends. Talk to people who are parents, and research how to take care of a kid. Experiance would help a lot, and you can never know too much about how to take care of a kid!

    Good luck!

  4. I am 21 years old with a 5 and a half month old baby.

I became pregnant unexpectedly (okay, not completely unexpectedly... More like I got lazy with the b/c), and was working at a daycare and babysitting for a few families at the time.

Honestly, I am SO glad that I worked with so many different children and families in a variety of settings, it really helped me figure out what does and doesn't work in almost every situation. Obviously, I've learned a ton with my own daughter, but because of my "background" in child care, I feel like I was much more prepared than I would have been otherwise.

You should definitely babysit or volunteer at a daycare, the things you learn there will really help you later, I promise!

  5. Find GOD he will lead you. Seriously

  6. you're very methodical aren't you?

I would say babysit. You are exposed to all different personalities and situations.

  7. Well, uhm, you've got a wrong question here and please let me direct your ideas. Parenting is not a task. Usually, and should be, it is a vocation. When you say it is a vocation, it is something that you choose to commit your life into. It is something that there is really no standard procedure to do. Experience would be your best teacher here. Just think about how your parents reared you and start from there. but, if you really need some handy advice, take this. LOVE THEM!

  8. go do community service at a preschool or a day-care(:

  9. I don't know if you can prepare. Trust me once you have that little life in your arms everything will just come natural.
