I am studying abroad in Florence right now and I have been pretty sick for the past couple of days and I really haven't had a chance to go to the doctor. Now i feel like i might be getting an ear infection and my equilibrium keeps on getting thrown off. on top of that I have a sore throat with a really bad cough and a lot of congestion. Have been taking Tylenol Cold. I am leaving for Sorrento in a couple of days and would like to be better as soon as possible! Any suggestions?

  1. Put one drop of mustard oil daily in your ear

  2. As one who has dealt with ear infections all my life, I'm worried if you are going to be flying.  In an airplane the higher altitude will make it extremely uncomfortable for you.  I'd go to the school's clinic ASAP to get some antibiotics.  You'll need to be on them for at least 24 hours or more before you really start to feel relief.

If you have an ear infection, congestion, or allergies you can be more prone to aerotitus. Your Eustachian tubes are already clogged enough and then to add the changes in air pressure of flying can really clog them more, causing extreme pain.

There are many things you can do to keep your Eustachian tubes working during a flight.  If you can’t avoid it, you can take some steps to make your flight more comfortable and maybe avoid aerotitus ear pain. Take a decongestant every 6 hours for 24 hours before and after your flight. This will shrink the swollen membranes in your sinus and ear canal. You can use a pediatric nasal decongestant spray immediately before you board the plane to shrink the nasal membranes and clear the sinus. Chewing gum during the entire flight, not just on take off and landing, will open up the Eustachian tubes and keep them open. There are also ear plugs available that decrease ear pain during flight. About half an hour before landing you can start to use the pediatric decongestant nasal spray every 5 minutes to keep nasal passages open.

I hope you feel well soon. Take care of yourself!

  3. call NHS direct, If it`s not an infection  and your  just  off balance due to a busy life style. you May  just need to  take stemetil for a while .

  4. putting a drop of garlic oil mixed with olive oil in your ear.

  5. Chew gum with Xylitol in it. Spray your throat w/ colloidal silver. If you think it might be caused by allergies, drink Nettles tea or Elderflower tea. If you think it's a head cold, take Echinacea root extract. Drink Mullein for the cough and to break up mucous. Buy Mullein oil w/ garlic in it, like Wally's Ear Oil. The mullein stops pain and inflammation & garlic is (topical) antibiotic. Take 3 grams Ester-C w/ bioflavanoids daily.

I don't know where Sorrento is but if you'll be flying or driving through mountains, get some Earplanes ear plugs - I've heard they work great: http://earplugstore.stores.yahoo.net/cie...
