What is the best way to put down a foudation for a log cabin?

i want to build a small log cabin about 5m by 5m, any tips on the best designs and easiest methods of building it? also how i would do the foundations thanks

  1. more commonly..REAL cabins are usually done on a pier and beam system and not a concrete slab...

  2. Level the ground first. Check with spirit level and straight edged board. Mark it out with string lines off corner profiles,5x5metres.  Make sure the diagonals are equal,7.071metres (pythagorus right angles).  Then dig about .5m deep and .3m wide inside the perimeter.  You may have to put a strenthening cross rib through the middle. Put some steel reinforsing bars in and when you poor the cement make sure you stick in some threaded steel rod to stick up  about .2 m for when you get the floor down.
