  2. Are you implying that eBay is the best way to raise money for a nonprofit?

The most straightforward way to raise money for a nonprofit is "the ask."  You need to identify potential donors and how much they might want to donate and why they might be interested in doing so.  Sit down with them, explain your program, and offer them the chance to donate, explaining specifically what their money will do.

It's a real fine art, and there are people who do it for a living.  Visit another nonprofit and talk with them about their findraising strategies.  In additin to the ask, there are mailing campaigns, special events, selling things, corporate partnerships, grants, etc.

  3. If you have the space and the volunteers, a spaghetti dinner with a Chinese auction is a great way to raise funds.  I also recently attended a buffet dinner where every dish of food was donated.  It was delicious and also included a very nice Chinese auction.  Raffles are another great fundraiser, but you have to make sure you get a license if one is required by your state.  Car washes are also great fundraisers, as are benefit auctions--especially if the auctioneer is willing to donate his or her services.   The key to any great fundraiser--non-profit or otherwise--is to keep the overhead costs very low and the profit margins very wide.
