  1. The best way to recycle is to design products with their whole service cycle in mind.  We recycle what we can, but it's rather ad-hoc "we can use this" "we could use this if they hadn't treated it with that chemical"

If we design things with their eventual demise in mind- making components and types of materials easier to separate, not using certain processes that negate the recycling value of parts, having planned second uses for things (Certain Airbus seat covers are now designed to be converted to mulch mats after they are replaced, and have been treated accordingly in advance).

Additionally, we need to begin paying for the costs of disposal up front, rather than externalizing the costs-  If TV set A is initially cheaper, but will create a toxic mess when you throw away, wouldn't you want to know that instead of being hit with increased landfill bills later (as these costs are eventually passed onto the consumer anyway)?

If TV B is easily and cheaply recycled and TV A requires an expensive disposal process, which is cheaper? TV B always was, because you'll eventually pay for A's disposal.  Now you're simply able to make fully informed decisions about it (as I've said, Americans will make smart recycling decisions when the costs and benefits are obvious, not externalized).

Until we do these things, our recycling will be essentially limited to scavenging.

  2. The only way I know how, is to take your bins to the recycle center and wait in line for almost an hour.

    but it's worth it.

  3. reuse products and cut less energy. Unplug appliances

  4. 1.to know what can be recycled(eg. papers, cans, glasses, mineral bottles, wood products etc).  sometimes the product company put the recycle symbol on the labels. try to find the symbol on the product if you are in doubt.

2.where to bring all the recycle stuff.(if you want to sell it, make sure you separate it by the categories because the price/kg are vary)

3.be consistent and dont get boring too easily. it will reduce the quantity of new material and trees being used to make the same primary product.

    4. tell your family members and friends about it and ask them to do it with you.  believe me, it will be more fun than you do it by yourself.

5.if you are somewhere but your home, try to find a public recycle bin.  and if it is not available, bring along a bag(eg.plastic bag) as your mobile bin if you can... =)

  5. my husband and i use the cardboard egg carton for the fireplace along with the toilet paper and paper towel rolls they help with the small pieces of wood to start the fire . all yr. long we save some in a bag and than we have some for the winter. also we use the newspaper for that too or we go to the recycle place to bring them along with cans and bottles. than the coffee ground's and such are used for the plants.

  6. The best way to recycle is to continually think of reuse options for every item we're about to discard.  Paper, plastics & glass can be placed in bins located all over the city.  Items we no longer need should be sold or given away to someone w/ a need for it to keep unnecessary volume from landfills.  Electronics should never be discarded with household garbage because once it's in the landfill, chemical contamination leaches down into water aquifers.  Save up such items each quarter for the Escambia Recycles drop off fairs held at various announced locations (i.e. Washington High School, etc.).  Many of these items can be donated for parts or for fundraisers for schools.  We should constantly be on the lookout for sources of new ways to recycle.  Schools can use old/outdated magnets for crafts; they can find craft uses for many of the items we may no longer need.  I could go on and on but I bet there's a character limit to this input.

    Hope this helps.
