What is the best way to remove a big oil stain on the garage floor?

I changed a couple of my cars oil this weekend but forgot to use a dropcloth and some of the oil that spilled left some big spots. I tried using some engine degreaser today which brought the oil to the surface but when I dried it it pushed it around more and made the 2 smaller spots one huge dark spot. What is the best and safest way to remove most of the stain?

  1. get some good grease remover .pour a bunch on the stains then cover it with a black trash bag to keep it from drying. leave it a few hours then rinse it well . this should work but may need 2 applications.

  2. How to Clean Oil Spots From a Garage or Driveway:

  3. Cat litter or Sand will do the trick.  Let is sit for a while to absorb the oil.

  4. anything you put onto the floor will contaminate the environment when it runs out of the garage.  Lowe's or Home Depot will have items that you can purchase that are similiar to the ones that the fire department uses for haz mat clean ups.  i can't remember the name -but they look like giant coffee filters.

  5. Cover the entire garage with oil and the stain will disappear.

  6. Kitty litter works pretty well.  Put a good amount over the stain, let it sit a couple of hours and sweep it up.  It should work.  Not sure if it will work after the degreaser, but hopefully it will!
