  1. If the stain isn't too bad, fill a spray bottle with a 1/2 bleach & 1/2 water solution. Spray the mixture on the stain and wait till it dries. Re-spray as needed. The stain should fade away. This avoids having to repaint the ceiling.

  2. Use a good quality primer that is made to cover stains, Kilz is one.  Then paint over the spot, but be prepared to paint the whole ceiling.  White may seem like white, but unless you have some paint left over from the origional paint job, it probably isn't going to match.  It is much easier to use a spray on paint, but if you don't have a sprayer handy, use a roller with a thick nap and roll over the area once.  The more you roll over it, the wetter the popcorn becomes & the more likely it is to come off.

  3. Use an antimold primer like Kilz on the stain and paint over that to match your ceiling. You'll never get the stain out, and if you get it wet enough trying, the texture will fall off!

  4. Kilz latex stain paint will work the best. Do not use regular paint until you put the kilz on or the stain it will return. Just paint over the area with Kilz then you can use any ceiling paint afterwards. I have used this many times and it works great.

  5. Spray it with Kilz.
