What is the best way to remove stain from a dresser?

  1. Are you asking about a stain such as a water spot or dirt or to remove the finish from the dresser. Since other answerers dealt with the first part, I will address the second. In order to refinish a dresser, I would first sand the dresser to the original color, start with a medium grit for the removal, going to a finer grit to smooth out the wood. Remember to go with the grain of the wood. At this point I would use a wood conditioner, then apply a new stain, if desired, then a polyurethane coat, even if you are going with a natural look.

  4. Mr. Clean Magic Eraser works wonders on everything. I haven't tried a dresser before, but I have tried it with just about everything else. Just wet it down, wring out the excess water, and scour away at the dresser.
