  1. Heat the old tape with a hairdryer on high. Then peel it off. Works like a charm. Every time. I've replaced many hundreds of grips in my day.

You could use  solvent to remove any glue residue, but you'll want the hairdryer to remove the tape itself.

I've got a complete regripping tutorial on my website here:

  2. Goo Gone!

  3. use Goo Gone

  4. goo gone or wd-40

  5. paint thinner

  6. Golfblogger.com knows what he's talking about.  Go with his answer and you won't be disappointed.

  7. Goo Gone!!!

  8. Any solvent and a sheetrock knife work just fine.

  9. If a steel shaft, go with scraping off the tape with a chisel or scraper (use a shaft holder and put it in a vise).   The residue /sticky glue will come off with grip solvent which you already have if you've begun regripping clubs.   You could probably do the same for a graphite club, but just need to be more careful.   Grip solvent is the way to go in any event.
