I found a bed bug on my bag upon returning home in Canada. What have other people done to succesfully rid themselves of these bugs before bringing the backpack in the house?

Thanks

  1. Agreed that high heat will work - needs ot be around 120 to 130 degrees.

But it is hard to get a suitcase into the clothes dryer so you need to get it done.  if you do not want ot throw it away, you need to spray it with either a chemcial treatment or a non-chemical treatment or both.

Chemcial treatments are avaiable at many hardware stores and non-chmecial treatment tend to be online purchases.  One that works well is Kleen-Free enzymes (www.Kleen-Free.com online).  Most of the non-chemical treatments are contact killers only so they will only kill what they are sprayed on but they also have no residual effect so you can use them around kids and pets etc.

You also need to watch closely at home for signs that you may have missed a hitchike or two.  But it will be a couple of months before you can be certain that there are others around.  Watch for bites in the morning and look for small brown spots on your sheets and mattress.

Just noticed that you said Canada in yoru question so I will point out that the Kleen-Free distributor in Canada is www.Ecoginesis.com according to the website.

Good luck and keep your eyes open and some treatment handy.

  2. the only real way of getting rid of them is to put EVERYTHING in the dryer at high heat to kill them
