  1. Use earmuffs hooked to a garden hose on the lower unit to provide water to the engine.

  2. A MOTOR FLUSH

  3. In a water barrel.

  4. There is a fitting that kinda looks like ear muffs. You connect a garden hose to it and clamp it on the water intake, located on the prop leg. Turn on the water, and your ready to start.

  5. its called a motor flush and it hooks up to a garden hose. connect hose to flush, connect flush to either side of  the intake at bottom of shaft securely and turn on hose then start engine!

  6. It depends on the year motor, some have vents in order to use Muffs, some the vents will not accept muffs so you have a fitting that screws on the motor for a water hose, , when in doubt use a Container that is deep enough for the motor to be submerged half way up the motor shaft, be careful when you put it in gear Stand Back you WILL get wet .

  7. If it is an outboard, put a big plastic tub under the propellor and fill it with water. Set the steering so that the exhaust drives the water around the tub, don't aim it square at the side, and avoid the propellor hitting the side if intending to pop it into gear for a short burst. Aim cooling water out-jet so as to fall back into tub so as not to make a flood and if running for long periods, take care to avoid overheating, as 'recycled' water will heat up quite quickly. (Tip: Just before switching off, put a very small amount of washing-up liquid in the water - it will clean lots of dirt and mud out of the cooling lines.)

If it is an inboard, affix a hose from the mains water supply into the engine intake, ensure the intake seacock is open, remove any items you do not want to get wet from the area near to the outlet (often the exhaust) turn on the water FIRST, to a good flow, but not so hard that it drives the hose out, and start it up. It will make a flood. How you contain this is up to you! Be sure to keep a close eye on the water hose and do not allow it to become disconnected.

Only turn off the hose AFTER switching off the engine. And soon after.

  8. fill your empty refuge bin with water and run the engine with the prop in the water butt you now have

dont run it dry or you will burn the motor out
