What is the best way to secure an upright piano for transport(ie. the hammers)?

  1. You don't need to worry about the action (the hammers) as long as you keep the piano standing up.  I would avoid turning it on its side, etc.  That is probably the only way you would damage the action.

    Buy some strong moving straps and a heavy moving quilt.  Put the quilt on top of the piano and put the straps over it and secure it to the truck so that it won't move in transport.  You will also need a flat dolly to put the piano on to roll it, and a couple of heavy boards/planks to roll it up onto the truck.


  2. i moved mine and never had a problem. however mine is an antique that is over 150 years old. it has counterweights on the keys, so it pretty much held itself

    in place.
