I have my old high school ring that I paid over $600 for. I was wondering what would be the best way to sell it? Just head into a pawn shop and see what I can get for it? Or melt it down and sell the gold and diamond separately?

  1. When you say "personalized", does it have your name in it?  Or just initials?  Jewelry has a big markup.  Gold has appreciated nicely over the last few years, I cannot say what diamonds have done.  Pawn shops or scrap gold buyers will pay you based on the amount of gold in the ring, which is probably less than $600.  24K gold is worth $25.37 / gram. If it is less K, multiply by K/24.

Your best bet is to take it to a jeweler and get an appraisal.

  2. NOT THE PAWN SHOP!  You won't get much.  Go to a gold and diamond broker.

That's what I did with my old gold and got market price.

  3. My friend decided to sell some of her old gold, silver, and platinum jewelry she wasn't wearing anymore.  I know what you mean about those old school rings you don't wear anymore.

She found a great site, I will the link for you below.

She liked this site because they were willing to pay her a lot of money. She liked the fact that they were members of the BBB and they were featured in USA Today.

Just an idea in case you have something you want to sell.

Good Luck!  Hope you get what you want for it!

  4. You have a couple of options to sell it ...

    1) Jewelry stores

    2) Online refiners

    3) Pawn Shops

    4) Ebay / Craigslist.

It really depends on how much work you want to put in to sell it.  Read this article for more information
