I am selling a 50 piece dinner service for my mum on ebay and wondered if anyone could advise whether I should send using a courier or royal mail? Also should I insist the buyer takes out insurance, I will obviously package well using packing peanuts bubble-wrap etc.

  1. I suggest that the buyer definitely take out insurance on this. Send it Royal Mail.

  2. dont. the royal mail dont handle the packages carefully. your china will not be safe!

  3. It is soooo not going to be safe if you send it by Royal Mail.

I suggest that you advise the buyer to collect it in person, or you ask someone to deliver it for you.  This needn't be expensive - it's the summer holidays and any student with a car will do it for the cost of their petrol plus £50

As a last resort use a courier, but this could be expensive.

  4. Tell the buyer that once it's left your hands if it then gets damaged it's no longer your problem, they would need to take it up with whoever you use to deliver it.

I'd use a courier, charge them for it, but someone like Parcel Force are a lot more likely to take good care of your parcel than Royal Snail Mail.

    Thanks

  5. Please be careful with custom value claims, otherwise the receiver will be forced to pay duty.  Claim below $50
