i bought a 5.1 surround computer speaker, but after i bought it, it doesn't work as planned. I cannot place the 2 rear speakers at the back for some reasons. Please advice me how to place the speakers.

Thanks a lot,

  1. Rear speakers should actually be positioned at head level directly to the right and left of where you sit to view the TV/computer. They are not actually suppose to go behind you.

  2. Well actually, there really is no right answer for this. The best idea for you would be to get them as close to the back, as possible because the point of having rear speakers is to have them in the rear. By the way, if your interested, Bose has a system of using to speakers for complete surround sound. Its quite up there in [price but you may want to look into it.

  3. Place them "as close" to the back area as possible - keeping in mind that "if" there is NO back wall (as it appears to be in your case) all "soundz" will be dispersed backwards and sound "hollow" regardless of "where" exactly - you put these... but as far rearward - at extreme distances along available walls, alcoves, etc., will help (remembering though - that virtually ALL normal - commercially available "digital" 5.1's are in fact "ONLY" 4.1's with the rear "centre" channel SPLIT over two speakers - to enable them to be placed either side of a couch - rather than one speaker mounted directly behind & with the SUB just as a lowest frequency front_centre_mono channel) - although I could simply suggest "searching" the web - on my user name in NZ.

  4. I know you don't want to hear this (no pun intended) but the short answer is that there isn't any good way to tackle this problem. The 5.1 system is made to make you feel as if you are part of the action in a movie sequence. The sound envelopes you when all of the speakers are placed in the correct positions. When you can't put the rear speakers in the rear, the only thing you will get is a wall of sound that doesn't make full use of the 5.1 tracks. The only way that I have seen others in the same predicament deal with this is to have the rear speakers at the sides of the room, well away from the front and center speakers, the sub is always optional as to where you want to place it, but corners and along walls work best. At least with the rear speakers away from the fronts you will get some of the benefits of the 5.1 system. Hope that helps you a bit.
