gf and I are planning a trip to Europe in early November so the flights are a bit cheaper. What would your itinerary be? We were thinking Italy - Florence, venice, and Rome. I've also heard it can be quite rainy there though.

  1. November is usually okay here in Italy. We do get some fog and rain during the month, but is isn't constant. There are a lot of interesting events around Italy in the first half of November. One of my favorites is the truffle festival in San Miniato the 1st 3 weekends in November (not far from Pisa; an easy train trip from Florence). http://www.sanminiatotartufo.it/inglese/...

The truffle festival in Alba is much bigger with world famous chefs showing up for the market, but is also a little further from the main tourist destinations. http://www.fieradeltartufo.org/it/

The Verona Horse Show is at the fairgrounds in Verona.

ot the Novello wine event at various locations: http://www.movimentoturismovino.it/index...

The Jazz Fest in Rome is in November. They haven't updated the website for this year yet: http://www.romajazzfestival.it/home.html

The World Press Photo exhibition will be in Lucca at Villa Bottini but it may open too late for you depending on exactly when you're here.

Of course, all the normal tourist attractions will also be available.

  2. Late autumn weather in Europe can be chancy, and rain is a possibility. On the other hand, the cities have lots of indoor things to see and do--museums, shopping, churches and historic sites. Nine days would be a little tight to see the 3 Italian cities, but if you organize your travel you should be able to see Venice and much of Florence along with some highlights in Rome.

If I were going in November, and my wife and I have on several occasions, I would either opt for Italy as you are, for Madrid, Barcelona, or Lisbon, or else bring along a warm coat and gloves and split the time between London and Paris. Late autumn is great for seeing the bigger cities!

  3. Venice is nice. I can't imagine much to do there after the first day, though.

I've never made it to Florence or Rome, though.

Salzburg and Munich are both a short drive from Venice.

In nine days, you can do a good bit of traveling in Europe
