What is the best way to spend money in mexico, travelers checks or credit cards? Worried about the fees.?

We've done both, but usually use traveler's checks because it's safer where we go.

Travelers checks are probably cheaper. Hassle factor when you need the cash is having to visit a bank. Cash exchange places dont always take them. I would just take a good deal of cash with you , exchange for pesos when you arrive and maybe use the travelers checks as back up cash,

Western union is another option. Simply wire yourself the $$$ before you leave, and then go to a western Union when you arrive or need the cash.

I wouldn't worry about Mexico. We have been to many parts of Mexico and have never had any problems with cash, travelers checks or credit cards. You won't need to exchange to pesos. I would try to stick with smaller bills in some areas though. Have a great time.

Use a debit card in ATM's for cash (pesos).  TC's are a pain and only good for backup.   Tell your bank you'll be in Mexico or the card may be locked
