What is the best way to spot an owl in the wild?

  1. The best time is around dawn and dusk.  You can see them moving in or out of timber or wherever the spend the day.  If the owl does not move it is impossible for a novice to find one.  They can fly without make any noise, so spotting one using your ears to help your eyes is difficult.  Roost trees can be located by finding owl scats.  However, an owl maybe have several roost trees.  Some owls roost in tree hollows.  So look for holes in a tree large enough to allow the owl an in and out.

    The period of greatest seasonal movement is when the adults are feeding young.  The parents have to stay active all day and all night long feeding growing owlets.  This is usually March through June.
