  1. A shed with lots of ventilation. If you have rats around,  you want a building you can keep them out of or you'll have rat **** all over your firewood. Yuck. Ventilation could be achieved by using fine mesh hardware cloth instead of plywood for part of the walls. Any sort of building will do as long as it keeps the wood off the ground and out of the rain, and it's easy to get wood into or out of. Double doors help for access by wheelbarrow or whatever. If you'll be cutting or splitting your own wood, It's very handy to have a bit of shelter over some ground to do that under; a wood floor doesn't work so well for splitting as a rule because it bounces too much.

  2. Ideally you want a bin near the door of the house that you would use to bring it inside. Stand at the door and work out where to put so that if it was raining and ran out of wood inside, you will not get soaked going to a woodshed.

You want a building that is on the warm sde of the house, and well ventilated.

  3. The best place is out in the open, with the top of the pile, ONLY, covered.
