  1. Please don't bring traveler checks. You will only be able to use them at the hotel or cash them at a bank (which can be a problem.)

Some cash but we mostly use ATM's. There is a usage fee of maybe $7 pesos (70 us cents) but you get the "best" exchange rate for your money into pesos. Please don't go to anyone at the airport or use one of the exchange companies you see throughout the tourist zone...you will not get the best rate. There are ATM's and banks everywhere.

  2. I just took us money and credit cards when I went to Cancun.  If you can, charge whatever you can with the credit card.  The credit card will charge you the best rate conversion for that day.  Most vendors accept american money, sure they will try and give rip you off a little with their conversion, but it would be like them taking a penny to a nickel for a dollar.

  3. Take a bit of each.........

  4. ATM is your best bet.

Use the ones inside the banks, inside the large hotels. Do not use them by night. Do not count bills in public. Be safe. Have a great vacation.

  5. Take some cash (dollars) and you can exchange them for pesos at the airport.  There are ATM machines all over the place where you can access your bank account directly and the machine will give you pesos to spend.  Have fun!

  6. I take credit cards and cash. both are good every where in Cancun.

If you are in some small towns bring cash, (pesos)

  7. When travelling on business in Mexico City I always had about $50 US but I would hit the ATM in the airport to get mexican pesos - minimal service charge from my bank and up to the minute exchange rate but thats my bank.  Can be a little challenging if you don't read spanish but ATM's are pretty intuitive.  I always prefer to use local currency since you rarely get a good exchange rate on the street and its rude to assume that someone wants to deal with exchanging your dollars.  You can get pesos at the hotel through your credit card but the service charge inflates the transaction cost to you.  Just as in this country, don't carry large amounts of cash at any time.  If you don't have or wish to use credit cards, take travellers cheques and cash a few at a time (bank, hotel, etc. can usually do this) as needed.

  8. anything is good over there

  9. I went to Cancun in 2001 and I seem to remember that we had problems with the Travellers Cheques.  I think you would be better with Mexican money.  Have a good holiday.  We went in January and what a shock to the system; coming back to England and snow on the ground.
