I'm just curious of trying to figure out the best way to track multiple purchases of stocks of the same company that have been purchased at diff prices.

  1. A simple yahoo/finance portfolio will do that for you.

    " Create" a transaction for each buy and your portfolio will track the average price...but you can always check back under transactions to see your diff purchase prices.


  2. Take the average price. Just add up the cost and divide by total number of shares.What do you mean by track? For tax purposes it is first in first out.

  3. I find the easiest way is with an Excel spreadsheet,

    I put down the price bot for each purchase and the number of shares, then I find the current price put that in another column, subract my cost and find out if I am up or down, and then total it all on the bottom.

    If you want you could also add up all your purchases, divide the number of shares into that, and you will get how much you paid for the whole position, then subtract current cost to find out profit or loss.
