  1. Well, first educate yourself.  Go out and buy a book or two about running marathons.  Hal Higdon has a good one, but there are many others with great info.

Now, if you're not an experienced runner, get used to running 3/4 miles three times a week.  You want to build up a base, so when you start training, you won't kill yourself.

Otherwise, eat healthy, run a lot, and read a lot.  It's way too early to start actual training for next year.

  2. run 26 miles everyday.

  3. Here you will find a wealth of information. It will have everything you need to know about training and nutrition. Good luck! http://www.halhigdon.com/#marathon

  4. Just as the other suggested...find a plan and stick to it.

You may want to consider running with a local training group or charity for the extra support. You'll be able to surround yourself with folks working toward the same goal and find friendships along the way. Plus it makes those 20 mile runs a lot less lonely and you get the support of coaches.

Hal Higdon takes a great approach to running for novices. And if you're new to running all together, I'd recommend picking up the book Marathoning for Mortals by John Bingham. It's hilarious, an easy read, and you'll learn a lot about training and what you're truly capable of.

Good luck and enjoy your training!

  5. I found this book helpful - "Non Runners Marathon Trainer" - a simple training program for your first marathon if your goal is to finish.  You need to have a 15 mile/week base to start and you will train 4 days per week for 16 weeks.    http://www.amazon.com/Non-Runners-Marath...
