Defnitely train.

There are direct trains every hour and a bit more. The journey takes between 2:47 and 3:06 hours and costs €44.20 full price 2nd class.

If you are under age 26 you should make a discount card ("VorteilsCard <26", valid 1 year) which gives you 45-50% discount (45 at the counter, 50 at ticket machines & internet booking) and costs only €20 (= it pays off on a single trip!). You only need a photo - ask for an application form at the counter.

Definitely take the train!! Leave from Vienna WHbf and go to Linz or Wels then from there you take another train to Salzburg it takes about 5 or 6 hours.  For one person the cost is about 60 euros without any concessions.  Buy your ticket before you leave at the station or on the internet (Don't buy on the train it will cost you more) you can go to www.obb.at here you can book your ticket so you get a seat, make sure you have your ticket on the train as it will be checked by the conductor and if you don't have it they will fine you 40 euros on the spot.  Have a good trip!!!!
