Powdered dye, prepared to the instructions on the box. A cotton garment. Rubber bands and gloves. A bucket or large basin to dye the products.

--OR--

A couple of squeeze bottles with the prepared dye and work outside or in your garage on a table you have put newspaper down or use a table you don't care about it getting ruined. The rest of the materials stay the same.

Basin method:  Rubber band the garment on how you want your design to look and dunk the garment in the colors you want.  

Bottle method:(easier to control) Rubber band the garment on how you want your design to look and using the squeeze bottles, squeeze the dye in the areas you want.

Unband the garment and let dry outside as there will be dripping(if dunked mainly, but dry outside just to make sure). This will set the colors.

Once dry, wash the garment in cool water to where a cup of salt(this will set further and keep the color longer) is added to the wash. You can do this in a washing machine, but make sure you run a bleach load after you are finished with the dye wash.

There are some craft stores that have a complete kit also.
