What is the best way to wash a hat?

I was wondering what the best way to wash my New Era Fitted hat is.

I heard the dishwasher but what do you do??

my boyfriend told be they shrink... he usually dumps it if it needs washing? I would do dry cleaning or hand wash.

You can wash it in the dishwasher or washing machine just DON'T put it in the dryer

Dishwasher is great if the hat is cotton, you just put it on the top rack and go.  However, New Era fitted hats are usually wool.  Therefore, the hat will shrink!  You can buy cleaner at Hat World or Lids, etc.  I feel it is best to "spot" clean and just wipe the inside down with lightly soaped wet rag.

Place the hat (i'm assuming it's a ball cap) inside a pillow case. Secure the ends of the pillowcase with safety pins (or just zip it closed if it has a zipper). Then place that in the washing machine.

they sell these things, look like hat shaped cages kind of, so you can put hats in the wash without getting smushed

you have to get a hat washer. its a plastic contraption you put your hat in and then put it in the dishwasher. it will loose its shape if you dont put it in the hat washer. IF the hat has a bad spot on it or is real dirty take it do a dry cleaner. but be sure to tell the cleaner how much you love  the hat.
