  1. I will agree with some of the other posts.

Work on your approach.  A lot.  It is impossible to think about your feet and the ball at the same time.  And you do not need a gym.  Mark off 3 meters or 10 feet and figure out where you need to start by starting at the net and going the other way.  Start your spike approach at the net and go towards the 3 meter line.  Where you land is where you start your approaches.

Take your approach and jump.  Go back quickly and do your approach again.  And again.  That is also a key to getting sets.  If you are back at your starting place quickly, your setter will know that you are ready while your teammates are still thinking about getting ready.

You will probably learn this at camp.  I try to keep my body square with the net when I approach from the right side as a right handed hitter.  I can hit the line that way.  (Very effective hit.  It is usually very open.  Most right handed hitters hit cross court and further cross court.)  If you need to hit the cross court shot, you can turn your shoulders and hit the corss court shot.  If you approach at an angle, you can hit the cross court shot and the further cross court shot.  You will hurt your shoulder if you try to hit the line.  (First hand experience.  Or should I really say-first shoulder experience.)

Also, if you want to practice hitting the ball against the wall, make sure the ball is high enough every time.  I hate it when I see people just hitting the ball against the wall no matter where the ball is.  They hit one over their left shoulder, one near their ear, one in the correct spot and then one directly over their head.  All that gets them is contact with the ball.  If you do not get the ball where it should be, catch the ball and toss it correctly.  Every time, you want to practice hitting the ball where it is supposed to be.

  2. Definatly work on your approach because it really is hugly important for momentum and just practice.  Camps are great because you can get special attention from college coaches.  Also, if you can get one of those nets that catch the balls so you don't have to chase them, it will allow you to practice more efficiantly.  Good luck and remember to snap your wrist.

  3. when i was in High School i made the varsity team my freshman year, i was a strong sie hitter but i got moved around alot...so i did play weak too, i was only 5'8" but i had mad hops, and could block amost everything. enough about me, a great excersise to use when u have a net firs start tossing the ball over the net to a partner, make sure u watch your follow through. after you do a few of those to warm upstart throwing it under the net letting is bounce 1 time be4 it gets to your partner..at home you could do this to with another person or a wall...you can also find a concrete wall and just toss the ball up and hit it, making it hit the ground before it hits the wall, this will work on your aim....if you have a basketball hoop or somthing high that you can jump for... you can take your approach and instead of hitting and following through just try to grab the object, this will improve your hand eye coordination and help you make contact with the ball...and a way to help your approach is to take a rug, and put it on the ground and while you try to do our approach, avoid touching the run...thats ill i can say for now

  4. you can definately work on snapping your wrist down and perfecting the spiking down motion. work on getting your hand to a comfortable position to hit the ball you say u can jump high so u can also work on jumping and working the swing along with the wrist snap. hope this helps!

  5. My best answer:

What ever you do in the camps, go home and have a friend of family member help you with it. Have them throw the ball up, and act like you are spiking it. Then after you run threw the rutine a few times, start actually hitting the ball. Just remember that strenght isn't everything, its acuracy that works better.

  6. Going to camps is probably the best way to work on your hitting exspecially if you are going to a camp at a college that is good at volleyball. Take what you learn from there and practice it often.  There are many different arm swings and approach styles . You just need to find the one that will work the best for you then practice it!!

  7. just keep hittiong it and go to a camp it helped me!

  8. Work on your approach without jumping and swinging then do a few with an approach and jump. Then add the arm swing. YOu always need to watch the ball if you take you eyes off of the ball you will miss it. Practice makes perfect! Good Luck with your swing!!
