Question:

What is the best web cam hosting out there?

have 2 web cams setup to a pc with hi-speed dsl. already in place and working. i need guidance on the best/low priced service that can host these cams to the net. it will be used to monitor animals in a shelter.

thanks for ANY advice or companies that can provide this service.

  1. If you are looking for a low priced solution that is easy to deploy and yet dependable, then I would suggest that you NOT use the 2 web cams. While they might be fun for IM chats and such, they really aren't that useful in an environment in which they might be jostled, bumped and otherwise discombobulated and require intervention by nearby staff members who may or may not have a clue about how to troubleshoot computers.

    Instead, may I suggest that you take a look at a dedicated network web camera? These devices have their own internal web server (meaning that you can just log into the camera from the Internet using a web browser) and are self-contained so you don't need to dedicate a computer to serving our video or pictures.

    I did a review of some higher-end cameras from Axis Communications which you can find at http://www.thetechstop.net/?page_id=111 --- If you are looking for a lower cost solution, take a look at the ones from Linksys or D-Link... they all pretty much work the same way... the only difference is image quality.
