My parameters are cost, ease of use, compatibility, and if possible lots templates. I am not a programmer and do not need to build super fancy sites. Thanks!

  1. What are you trying to do exactly? HTML isn't programming so I'd recommend good old notepad or Notepad ++(it's a free download) if you just want simple HTML at no cost.  The best program as far as WYSIWYG editors is hands down Adobe Dreamweaver.

  2. The best website builder is http://WebStarts.com and here's why...

WebStarts has a super easy to use drag and drop interface that allows you to place text, images, video, and whatever else exactly where you want it to appear on the page.

You need not know a l**k of HTML or any other coding language.

WebStarts offers hundreds of templates to choose from but unlike other programs you'll be able to change every aspect of any template. This will allow you to create a truly unique website quite easily.

WebStarts is free to sign up. Check it out at http://WebStarts.com

Please don't forget to select me for best answer if you found this information helpful.

  3. Try using a CMS (Content Management System). You can customize your own templates without knowing any code, and there are tons of templates available, because many users submit their own. You have the ability to turn on whatever features you want within the site and turn off what you don't. Look into Drupal or Joomla. Many sites will even tell you what browsers the different templates are compatible with. Let me know if you need anything else.

  4. You can check review of top ten web hosting sites at website like http://aplis.net/ .

  5. Try Weebly or Blinkweb, their easy to manage free website (or blog) has cool features that include drag and drop capability, switch designs on the fly, youtube and google video, custom html, upload images, flikr photo gallery, visitor stats and more.  You can also buy a new domain instantly, or host your existing domain for free and make it your own (www.yourown.com)

If your looking for something more advanced but still user friendly then try CityMax or Site Builder Designs, they have everything you need in building your own website: domain name registration or domain transfer, web hosting, web builder, site maintenance and email accounts. Everything is laid out in an easy to follow step by step instruction. Some of the features included enable you to add your own themes, videos, images or mp3 music making your site unique to you. Pricing is comparable and affordable too.

I hope that I was of some help and answered your question.

  6. I suggest using Microsoft Office Live Small Business to build your free website  - http://tinyurl.com/officeliveoffer . It has a free design tool that allows you to create web pages without coding. It has 500mb of web space and no ads. MS is giving a free domain name for the 1st year. This is not just for business websites, works great for other kinds of sites.
