  1. this is the best one and easy to use

  2. Download Google Earth; the program has a ruler function which I use to accurately measure runs. It's very helpful :D Have fun running!

  3. I adore http://www.mapmyfitness.com

They have two very easy to use route creator... I suggest the first one if doing shorter routes, and clicking on the option to make the map a hybrid... so you can see the street names and satellite pictures of what the area looks like...

After you create the mapped route (so easy to do)... you can enter in some stats... like the degree of the workout and stuff like that... Your weight, etc... and not only will it tell you the distance... Each time you log that route into the training log, if you enter in the amount of time it took you to complete the route, it will tell you calories burned, and your pace.

Once you have more than ten routes on your training log you can look at trends and stuff with your running.

You can also save a pair of shoes under your gear and it will warn you when it's time to change them in (based on mileage run on them)

There's also options to search for routes in your area that area already in existence...

    I love that site.

  4. mapmyrun is the easiest.  simply create an account and make a database for all your runs.  it has all the features you are looking for and more.  i use it a lot to keep track of my workout progress.
