  1. If the light is coming in then the heat is likely going with it. Unless you are going to replace the windows then heavy lined drapes are best, but it won't let light in. I have honeycomb blinds on a few windows that allow some light and seem to be better than nothing for heat transfer. I also have sun shades on my windows during the summer months. Cooling is a much bigger issue for me than heating.

  5. Use an external shade to prevent sunlight entering the building. Red fabric rots and fades - so use blue or green.

    On the ground, green grass is good, or crushed gravel - to reduce reflected energy.

    Paint your walls white - or fix insulation on the outside - to prevent conduction through the wall.

    Use reflective window film directly on the glass. - It looks tinted from the inside, but reflective from the outside.

    Take your AC intake from the shaded area of the house - not in sunlight.
