I have an airport extreme and it works great but I need to cover wider distances like about 200 feet or more. Is there any router currently available that covers this distance with reliability?

  1. Depends if you are talking line of site or through walls etc. Any decent N router should do 200yards LOS, once you start going through walls etc then things become alot different. Try and make sure you have as few solid objects as possible, also try and make sure the source and reciever are on a 90 degree angle to any walls ie tx ----- | ------ rx with | being the wall in between. Once you get an angle the distance/amount of interference is increased.

The only thing that defines the signal strength on a small area like you are talking about is antanae size/power.... but don't forget if you have a powerful router, your pc or laptop may only be able to see the signal, not send anything back to it as it won't be as powerful.

If you want to join 2 networks wirelessly then look at an N bridge. Bridges are always made with more power from factory as they are usually designed to join networks across a large distance. Cisco, Dlink, 3Com all make these, you just need to decide how much money you want to spend.

  2. Netgear X 15

  3. Linksys.

  4. its not even n yet - its "pre-n"

who knows if the current batch will even work with the eventual standard

bit of overkill and hockus pockus these stated claims
