Reasonable price meaning everything from free up to around $150. I don't mind spending some money if its worth it, but I'm not going to spend $800 or anything like that - I'm not a professional. Just want some decent software to make dvd's for home/family use from our HD Camcorder.

  1. Since you did not specify your computer environment and you didn't specify the high definition camcorder...

In the Apple Macintosh environment, iMovieHD will edit the video and iDVD will make the DVDs - and they are both bundled with new Macs... so... um, they are free.

In the Windows environment, MovieMaker cannot deal with HDV or AVCHD... Sony Vegas and Adobe Premiere usually float to the top for editors... WinDVD seems to take care of the DVD burning piece.

There will be differences and possible additional requirements if the camcorder is either miniDV tape (HDV) or hard disc drive (HDD), flash memory or DVD based AVCHD high definition.

  2. Try Vegas Movie Studio before you go for the pro version - it's enough for most people.
