thks to all of you for all previous answers.

we narrowed our search to two places, " the gong" & central coast ( no definit area/town, gosford, terriga, avoca, copacabana...ect ? ).

in order to be reasonably close enough to sydney while enjoying, quieter & closer to nature environment....and live a bit larger w/o spending it all !

how these 2 places compare and which one the best, and why ?

we will make trip in june to close the deal !

  1. The central coast mate, more oppurtunity. The gong is a bit boring, good luck!

  2. Well, Wollongong is the third largest city in NSW after Sydney and Newcastle and there are many beautiful beaches along this region. Lots of Sydney families in previous years and now are moving to this area for cheaper homes.

The Central Coast is also great but a bit more expensive. The weather there is a bit extreme compared to that of Sydney's but for Wollongong, it's very similar - around 1 degree lower on average most the time.

On the Central Coast, I've been to Copacabana and Avoca before and it was a great seaside town! Lots of takeaway stores and the beach was fabulous! The houses there look pricey though. The Central Coast is seen as Sydneysiders as "an outer part of Sydney" despite it is a separate region.

  3. Hard to say which is best, they're both great areas. The Central Coast has more of a small beachside towns feel, lots of people have holiday houses there, although a lot of it is ordinary suburbia. Woollongong is a small city - you may find a bit more in the way of shops and facilities there, although there are plenty of facitilites in both places.

They both have plenty of nature/scenery/beaches.

Woolongong used to be a bit industrial but it has changed a lot. If you are going to buy a house I think it's probably a better investment.

  4. You will find the gong more affordable than the central coast.  There are some really nice areas if you stay north of wollongong city, if you want to go south i would suggest shellharbour, but not the estates.

  5. Everyone will have different opinions, just make sure you really check the area out.

    Go at different times too:

when school has just let out

    During a school vacation/or on a weekend

On a Wednesday for Wollongong (Uni night, where all the uni students go clubbing and drinking)

    And sadly, on dole-payment/pension day.

I would prefer Wollongong, but only because I have family that live just past it so I would be closer to them.
