  1. Personally I'm a fan of Los Angeles, mainly because I live and work here. There are so many film makers, opportunities and support companies that you could hit the ground running. As a writer, you have endless ability to get your projects done at the indie level with the goal of moving up the ladder to studio projects. As an actor, you have daily castings and most of the top Agents, Managers and publisists all around you. On the down side, there are thousands of people here trying to do exactly what YOU want to do. If you keep your head on straight and do the work (don't settle for short cuts), you'll be in the company of great artists that find success here. Perhaps the best part of LA has to be the feeling that at any moment, and anyplace, your career could take a huge jump forward. Good luck with your decision!

  2. Allen L. gave some excellent advice.

I, on the other hand advocate New York if your focus is primarily stage, print, or literary rather than film or television.  The Writer's Guild of America (WGA) both east and west coast divisions have excellent sites.

I would not advocate Miami for a writing career.
