  1. surfing

  2. don't where a leash for a couple of times, and if you wipe out, you have to swim after your board.

  3. I would say that surfing is still the best workout for surfing. Nothing helps out better than the actual action of surfing. I would also get into swimming if you have access to a regulation pool.

For balance I enjoy using the Indo Board. Great for balance and works out the core. Perhaps combine this with the Versa trainer and you have a perfect indoor training regime.

  4. Yoga is the by far the best workout. Not only to you work out your muscles but, more importantly, you increase flexibility. In order to advance in surfing, you must be flexible and too decrease the amount of possible leg cramps, you must stretch before paddling out. Kelly slater is one of the most flexible people I have seen, why do you think he is as good as he is?

  5. I know everyone has their own ideas, but from experience there are so many workouts that help!  You must do upper body strength training (a great one for balance and strength is lie on you bed as if you were on your board, push and jump up as if you are surfing, repeat as much as you can without breaking your bed!) loads of core work - rowing, running, pilates etc. And up the swimming and breathing techniques! Have fun see ya in the surf.

  6. Bosu! Any core work is good. Balance work. Ballet. Agility. Swimming is always a bonus.

Strengthening the core muslce group helps the body keep balance. Also, some light weight training for the shoulders, triceps, biceps and chest will help improve your paddling ability.

    Good luck and have fun!!!

  7. Surfing uses several different muscle groups, so you really need to do more then one exercise. I'd say the most important is paddling, you want to be able to beat others to the peak and last several hours.

For that I would recommend a series of shoulder and back exercises. Use lighter weights and do more reps and sets for endurance.

In addition to that jogging for endurance and strengthening your legs and bench presses, or push-ups for popping up quickly and easily.
