i am planning to set-up wi-fi sharing between 2 condo units on separate floors (5th and 6th). what is the better set-up, the base at the 5th floor or the base is at the 6th? any other ideas for this wi-fi set-up to ensure good bandwidth for both floors?

  1. Not knowing what the construction is, I would suggest having an ethernet cable run between floors and having an access point on the other floor if necessary.  This will ensure good signal at all locations.

Since you are probably running for a Home Entertainment system, the additional cable shouldn't pose a problem.

  2. I don't think it would matter (it's not like heat it doesn't rise or sink) either way it has to travel the same distance. Which ever place is the most convenient too install it.

  3. I find that by putting the base on a higher floor you have a better chance of getting the WIFI signals on the lower floor, now depending on how thick your walls are you will probably need some sort of wifi repeater which you can get from D-Link or any other wifi brands.
