  1. You can go to a university after you graduate from high school.

You can go to college after you graduate from high school.

  2. It's the same thing, just a different name. Universities are bigger schools, and have an undergraduate program AND a graduate program (which you go to after undergrad.) Colleges are usually smaller and have only an undergraduate program (and if you want to go to graduate school, you just go to a different school)

  3. yes

  4. My understanding is that a college typically offers only 4-year degrees and a university also offers advanced degrees.

Schools grow and change and offer more programs, but these are the basics.

  5. College: an institution of higher education created to educate and grant degrees; often a part of a university

the term college is thrown around a lot, but generally in a university you will find many colleges for different areas of study.  A college of education, a college of liberal arts, etc all in the same university.

The term college is also used in community college, which is a post secondary institution authorized to give associate degrees and certificates as well  a variety of both credit and non-credit classes.

University: an institution of higher education and research, which grants academic degrees at all levels (associate, bachelor, master, and doctorate) in a variety of subjects. A university provides both undergraduate education and postgraduate education
