What is the big deal about Brett Favre going to another team in the same division? Are the packers afraid they'll get beat? So what if he goes! They're just another team, just like the Cowboys, and Indianapolis. I think they're acting completely idiotic in their business making decisions in this case. If you think you're a good enough team without him, then you prove it by having the balls to play Vikings, just as you have to play the the Colts, Bears and Cowboys, If they Packers are so scared of playing a Viking team because they have Brett Farve, then they have NO chance of beating any team in the AFC. To continue to play this shurade and not release Brett just because you don't want to play the Vikings twice and get beat, just shows how cowardly the Packers organization is, and I'm not being bias. I live in Pittsburgh and am a Steeler fan. Someone PLEASE tell me there is more to them not releasing Brett just because they don't want to play the Vikings, or Bears. Even if he goes to Tampa Bay, they still have to play them too. Do the Packers think they're so smart as to go through all this c**p, just because they think they have a better chance of making it all the way to the Superbowl if Favre is on the Bucs, as opposed to being with the Vikings or Bears? What about the Giants, Steelers, and Patroits? They will eventually have to play them too if they're good enough. If the Packers management has such little confidence playing a Viking team with Brett Favre, then they have NO chance of making to the NFC Championship game, especially without him. Either they keep him as a starter, or RELEASE him. This is a business. I personally think that upper management in Green Bay are cowards, and that this mess that they're in is because they brought it all upon themselves!!!!! Any responses would be greatly appreciated.

  1. You don't help a rival.  You do everything possible to beat them or at least prevent them from getting better.

  2. I agree with you in an over all view of the situation.

But, at the same time, how embarassing would it be to have a stadium full of fans at Lambou cheering for Favre visiting with the Vikings?

Also, it's not just because the Vikings would be playing and potentially beating the Packers. It's the fact that with Farve the Vikings would be playing and beating the whole division. Putting the Vikings in contention with the Packers to win the division.

Not to mention giving the Vikes more of a chance to win their non-division games as well.

They don't want to give the Vikings the one thing they needed to beat them out for the division title.

They are just as afraid of the Vikes beating Detroit and Chicago and the rest of their schedule, as they are of getting beat themselves.

  3. Because if the Packers have to play against him, they know they will not win. Why play against someone you know is good if you can help it?

  4. I kind of wondered the same thing here.  If you think the team is better without him, why not trade him to whoever gives you the best in return for him, regardless if it was the Bears or Vikings.  By not allowing him to go where he wants it's like the Packers are saying, we want to move on to Rodgers, but we'd still like to have Brett on the bench if Rodgers doesn't pan out like we expected.

  5. To someone who is an armchair QB, you make sense, however, there is obviously more to it than that.

Green Bay is not a coward team because they don't want to trade Brett Favre. If it were just sending him to another team to keep him happy, they would've done it already.

When you get a chance, do a search on the most popular selling football jerseys in the entire world. You will see the Green Bay Brett Favre jersey at or near the top of the list. And, oh...by the way, they do sell more Brett Favre c**p than just jerseys.

I can still buy a Dan Marino jersey today if I wanted, but try to find a Deion Saunders jersey anywhere....good luck. That is a major reason why Green Bay doesn't want to deal Favre.....team association with a legend player.

The whole situation has so little to do with worrying about getting beat by him. Since most peoples vision is limited to Sunday games, they don't have any eye on the money aspect.....which I believe you even stated in your question 'This is a business'.....

That's why they don't want to deal Brett.....'cause it's a business and Brett retiring a Packer is worth millions and millions to Green Bay. If he retires a Viking....he is worth millions and millions to Minnesota. That is why they were going to pony up 20m to keep him retired.

  6. Awesome question! I couldn't agree more this is totally insane to me you have a team in the vikings or bears that will most likely give you more value for a trade of Brett Favre due to despeation, and the packers are not willing to negotiate with them at all. If you dont think Brett can play then send him anywhere. Also this is the reason Brett doesnt want to play for the packers. How much has he givin to the the organization and they can't even let him be traded where he wants to go when they say the packers have no use for him. The packers have botched this so bad it is an black eye to the NFL.

  7. Uh, because he's one of the greatest quarterbacks of all time.  You don't win against one of the greatest QB's of all time, and the entire point of football is to win.

    Duh...

  8. I think there's more to it all. If the Packers have that much faith in Rodgers they need to let Favre go where he wants.

  9. I agree.  They explicitly stated that Aaron Rodgers was the future regardless of what happened, but that's total bullshit.  First, they should back up their talk and win with Aaron Rodgers.  Second, do they really think that Brett Favre is that good?  In all honesty, I don't think he's going to do that well at all next season.  The Packers should trade him and get some young talent.

  10. dude, both brett farve and the packers made huge mistakes and i don't want to here anything about the situation until it's ove!. aaron rodgers is a cool guy and i love him to pieces even though he's not proven yet and might not be good, i like him! haha. rodgers for MVP!

  11. The Packers think they would get more value from a team outside their division.  If he plays with Tampa, the Packers will win one.  If he plays for the Vikes or Bears, the Packers will win twice.

  12. Well your right. If the Pack has that much faith in Aaron Rodgers then they wouldnt be so affraid to release him and let him go to the vikings. But if they are affraid and dont have the faith in Rodgers then they should keep Brett and have him start. But it is obvious they're affraid (pointing this at Thompson). And Brett didnt start all of this "drama" in the first place and people need to realize this. Thompson is the one who made it public and what not, then he told the NFL that The Vikings were tampering with Brett's contract just so that he would be sure that Brett doesnt go to the Vikings, which also added to the drama. I hope Brett goes to the Vikings and beats the h**l out of the Packers.
