  1. Wimbledon 2005: Venus scame back from a set and a break down and won it in a three set thriller. Amazing play by both Venus and Lindsay. But the determination b Venus was nothing I had ever seen before.

  2. The only two that I can remember is Jimmy Connors vs Patrick McEnroe in 1991 US Open 1st round.  Connors was down 0-3 in the 3rd and came back to win the match 4-6 6-7(4) 6-4 6-2 6-4.

The other one was Sampras vs Courier in 1995 Aussie Open.  Sampras was down 2 sets losing both in tie breakers and came back to win the match.  I don't think Sampras was down in the 3rd though 6-7(4) 6-7(3) 6-3 6-4 6-3.

    :)

  3. I think either Jimmy Connors or John McEnroe did that in the 80s.  I forget which.

  4. i watched jimmy connors at wimbledon playing a bullet headed swede. i think he was swedish but im not sure. jim was 2 sets down and 3-0 in the third set. then he went for it and won the match. it was unbelievable. i dont know what year it was. it was late 80's  and ive never seen a match like it.

  5. These are just the ones that I remember but I don't know if it can be considered the absolute greatest comebacks ever.

Andre Agassi being 2 sets down in the 1999 French Open final and then coming back to book his place in history. That was a great match and big win for Andre.

Steffi Graf down 4-1 and a point away from being down 5-1 in the final set of the 1993 Wimbledon final, but coming back to defeat Jana Novotna 5-4.

Steffi Graf - at the 1999 French Open final, Steffi fought back from a set and two breaks down in the second set to defeat the top ranked Martina Hingis in three sets 4–6, 7–5, 6–2.

Serena Williams in the 2003 Australian Open Semifinal where she came back from a 5-1 deficit in the third set and saved two match points to defeat Kim Clijsters 4–6 6–3 7–5.

Amelie Mauresmo - coming from a set down to defeat Justine Henin in the 2006 Wimbledon final. I know its not a dramatic comeback but when you consider Amelie's track record in big matches like this one, I am sure everyone expected her to lose this match in straight sets, after dropping the first set. I always felt that this was Amelie's best match ever played.

Venus Williams - saving that match point and being down in every set in her incredible win over Lindsay Davenport in the 2005 Wimbledon final.

Richard Gasquet - coming back from losing two tie-break sets against Andy Roddick in their Wimbledon 2007 Quarterfinal match to win 6-7, 6-7, 7-6, 7-6, 8-6.

Justine Henin - coming back from a 5-3 deficit in the second set and a 5-2 deficit in the final set and was just two points from defeat eleven times, in her marathon 2003 US Open Semifinal match against Jennifer Capriati which she won 4–6, 7–5, 7–6(4).

Jennifer Capriati - in the 2002 Australian Open Final against Martina Hingis, she was down 6–4, 4–0 but battled back to win 4–6, 7–6, 6–2. She saved 4 championship points during the final, which is a record for most match points saved during a Grand Slam tournament final.

  6. For me the biggest comeback ever in men's tennis is in 1999 where Agassi trailing 2 sets down against Andrei Medvedev in French Open Final but come back with a 1-6, 2-6, 6-4, 6-3, 6-4 win to complete a career slam.  He had done it again twice in 2002 and 2003 respectively against Paul Henri Mathieu and Mario Ancic.  What a great player he is!!!

For women, it also happened in 1999 French Open Final where Martina Hingis held a match point against Steffi Graf but Graf fight back after Hingis suffer an emotional collapse.  In the end, Graf prevailed with a 4-6, 7-5, 6-2 win.
