  1. I find the qualification of "excluding mollusks, crustaceans, arachnids, etc" ridiculous.  I think you need to define "jump" and "animal" more carefully.  Excluding entire classes of animals arbitrarily makes the answer meaningless.

  2. Whale shark and elephant.

  3. One of the largest creatures on earth the Whale Shark is primarily pelagic, living in open oceans & seas.  Whale Sharks are a migratory species navigating extreme distances with a wide-ranging oceanic territory.

the only animal that cannot jump It is the shark, any shark. The can leap out of the water but it cannot jump. Some sharks such as the Whale Shark cannot even leap out of the water. Sharks can't jump.

The only other animal that cannot jump is the slug. That goes for the snail too. The Banana Slug and the garden snails. All garden snails. They all cannot jump.

The only other animals that cannot jump would be the Blue Whale. Blue Whales are such large creatures that they cannot jump or even leap out of the water. If they leap out of the water, the impact would shock and dissolve some vital organs. That is why they are loathed to jump, leap, or bounce.

The only other animal that cannot jump is the snake. Some snakes climb trees and some even jump of trees and glide. Or maybe the spring of trees and technically do not jump. Snakes do not have legs for jumping. The same is true for earth worms. I've seen earthworms wishing they could jump. They flee to the asphalt roads to get away from the water. They could drown in their worm hole homes, so they have to flee. I know they would like to run and jump up trees but they can't jump.

The only other animal that cannot jump is the living sponge. I guess that goes also for the coral. These animals are more like fixtures. They do not move, as in locomotion move. They plant themselves somewhere and never move again. They also cannot jump. I suppose in their carefree youth, when they are still light enough for the water currents, they would jump around in the water. They might even jump in the surf and technically be free from the water surface and in the air. I wonder what would that be called. I guess the barnacle is the animal that has the same problem. It also cannot jump.

I know jellyfish truly cannot jump. I wonder if they are really animals. If a jellyfish tried to jump up 20 feet above the water, it would splat and disintegrate on impact. Especially if it landed on dry bedrock. I wonder if jellyfish think about jumping. I think it would be like humans thinking they could fly like hummingbirds. Jumping is a fun thing to do.

Everyone says that the elephant is the only animal/mammal that can't jump. This is NOT true. As far as mammals go, there's sloths, rhinos, hippos, seals, manatees, dugongs, or whales and dolphins (unless you count water as a suitable base for the jump). Heck, I don't even think that a platapus can jump because of the shape of its feet, which leads me to say that ducks and other webed-footed birds cannot jump as well. Other than that, there are many insects that cannot jump like slugs and snails. Some spiders can't jump and niether do cockroaches. However, I do agree that the animal that would recieve the most damage from a jump would be an elephant due to the pressure on its feet. Come on guys, elephants being the only jumping-disabled animal? Surely there is more common sense here.

  4. the whale shark is the biggest fish  and the elephant is the non-jumper.

  5. Biggest Fish ....

    WHALE SHARK

The only animal that cannot jump, excluding mollusks, crustaceans, arachnids, etc, is the (ironically named) Rockhopper Penguin, native to the southernmost regions of Argentina.
