  1. It really depends where you will sit (distance from the screen) and the type of programming (SD or HD). It also depends on your viewing preference (think of a movie theatre ... where do you sit ... up close, in the middle or at the back?

See the calculator (and associated explanation) at the 1st link.  At 14' the SMTPE recommended size is 90" (16:9 screen), and the THX recommendation is 109".

Since an LCD at that size is prohibitively expensive, you have two choices .... buy the largest display you can afford or consider a projector and screen. Personally I recommend a projector (See 2nd and 3rd links for info, reviews and recommendations). The ONLY way to get BIG SCREEN experience ... and the same price (approximately) as a flat panel HDTV half the size.

  2. I would say at the most a 42” LCD TV otherwise you might be to close for comfort.

Here is an example chart of how far you should sit from the TV depending on size…

    30" 3.75-6.25 feet

    34" 4.25-7 feet

    42" 5.25-8.75 feet

    50" 6.25-10.5 feet

    56" 7-11.75 feet

    62" 7.75-13 feet

    70" 8.75-14.75 feet

  3. What is the biggest or smallest? You must mean smallest. If you are going to be seated at the opposite wall, meaning 15 feet away, I would not go smaller than a 57". I would recommend larger but lcd tvs cost a fortune if you go much larger than this. Lets assume you are wealthy and using the walkin closet of your home for tv viewing then in this case I would recommend something around 75". Cost be damned!

  4. 14.9' x 14.9'
