  1. Actually, the largest volcano in the world is the Yellowstone supervolcano, located in Yellowstone National Park. The caldera is huge, measuring 34 miles by 45 miles.

If it erupted, it would cover virtually the entire United States in ash. Locally, it would kill millions of people. It would also kill many plants and animals across the North American continent. It would affect the whole world as well.

  2. The world's largest volcano can be found on Hawai'i Big Island, in fact it's so large that it takes up half the island.

It's name means 'long mountain' but it's better known as Mauna Loa.

Mauna Loa tops out at 4,169 meters or 13,679 feet above sea level and extends another 5,000 meters to the sea floor where it makes a depression 8,000 meters deep.

From the base of the volcano to the peak is an erupting 17,000+ meters or roughly 56,000 feet.

Mauna Loa is still active with it's last eruption occurring in 1984.

As of the last eruption, it did not affect the whole world. But what do you mean by affect? An eruption like Mt. St. Helen's spread ash and gases into the atmosphere that traveled the whole world. But if you are asking if the largest volcano's biggest possible eruption would be devastating across the globe, no. No single volcano eruption can have disastrous world wide affects.

  3. No--it's Mauna Kea on the Big Island of Hawaii.  Not presently active, but the largest in the world.

    hope this helps

  4. The home of Pele, the volcano goddess of Hawaian legend, the largest and active volcano would be Mt. Kilauea in Hawaii.

  5. Af is correct, it is yellowstone.
