Well this is actually segwayed from baseball.

The Rangers and the Reds made a trade

Texas sends Josh Hamilton

and the reds send Edinson Volquez.

They both weren't expected to be that great.. but this year Hamilton leads the league in RBI (58) and Volquez is in a tie for the lead of strikeouts this season (76)

now has anything happened like this in hockey? im sure it has... but what are the most notable?

  1. Take the trade and the "Domino trade" after the trade of Forsberg to the Preds. Next was the  the Timonen, Hartnell trade, and so on!  Both teams got what they wanted. For the PREDS it was solid younger guys who made less money this year. Philly got the players they needed to boost them into the next level. Both teams won (considering the circumstances they were in) in the trades with each other starting with the Rental of Forsberg for the playoffs last year. Then came the big switch for salary reasons... BUT IN THE END, they both WON!

  2. Hossa For Heatley paid off big for both teams. Heatley was stagnant in Atlanta and not looking like he was capable of regaining his dominant play after the loss of his friend Snyder. Hossa was practically begging for a trade out of Ottowa. They went on to post fairly similar points totals. Ottowa got a little more out of Heatley, but both played very well for their respective teams. Now Hossa has added to the future fortunes of the Thrashers as well. Esposito still has the possibility of being a game changing talent (not as likely as before) and the first rounder should get a decent player as long as they don't pull a Daigle.

  3. Well, for current---Marian Hossa traded to Pittsburgh Penguins by Atlanta Thrashers with Pascal Dupuis for Colby Armstrong, Erik Christensen, Angelo Esposito, and Pittsburgh's 1st round choice in 2008 NHL Entry Draft.  I'd say that's a pretty win-win situation.

  4. I remember when the Wings traded promising forward Mike Foligno and others to the Sabres for Danny Gare and Bob Sauve. Both teams improved. Foligno's son now plays in the NHL.

Gare had some 50 goal seasons for the Wings, and Foligno was turned into a perrenial Selke candidate.
