Really simple game, really hard to master. Each player takes it in turns to place a black or white counter upon the intersections on a grid. Played in films like A Beautiful Mind, and Pi - Faith in Chaos. What is this game called, and how does on play?

  1. Its Go

  2. Yes, the game  you are talking about is Othello.

  3. sounds like either backgammon or othello...both fun.

  4. Go in Japan and most western countries.

    Baduk in Korea.

    Wéiqi in China.

    Another movie sighting:

A game in progress can be  seen in Veronica's (Winona Ryder's) bedroom next to her desk in the movie "Heathers".

It would be easy to describe the rules for placing a stone.  However, the rules for scoring a completed game are less trivial.  It would be easier for you to just Google for "Go game" and check out one of those web sites.

  5. The game is called Othello! It's a really fun game and really challenging! It's way better than checkers I can tell you that =p

  6. checkers...i think.

go on www.google.com and type in play checkers.

  7. He was playing Go.

Here is a link for the New York Times article with a picture of a Go game on a computer.  Referencing the movie "A Beautiful Mind" and John Nash.

       http://www.nytimes.com/ref/open/thisweek...

The Academy Award-winning film A Beautiful Mind starring Russell Crowe as economist and Nobel laureate John Forbes Nash features a game of Go that Nash loses, even though he had the black stones and moved first.

A link to wikipedia and the game Go is above.  Is a bit different than Othello/Reversi.  Much larger game board and pieces are played ON the grid line intersects. Not in the squares made by them.

  8. Othello  if i am correct

  9. Definitely Go. That's the only one where black and white counters are placed on the intersections of a grid. Othello and checkers you put the pieces in the centre of the squares, backgammon and mancala aren't played on grids at all.

  10. sounds to me like backgammon...........think i spelled it  right. couldnt tell u how to play though.

  11. Othello! It's so fun. Similar to checkers- one player is black, on is white. Buy it and read the directions. Kids can play it.

  12. It could be manacala (in some forms). Usually thats a wooden board though, played with marbles. Other than that, idk

  13. It's Othello!  I just played it the other day.

  14. backgammon
