Question:

What is the botanical name for wood?

is it secondary xylem?? this was asked in a past exam paper for 'plant biology', and we've only learnt about anatomy.

  1. I would say secondary xylem or sclerenchyma, but neither of those are really specific to wood...

    You know, wood is a pretty acceptable botanical name for wood.  :)


  2. Wood-the secondary xylem of trees and shrubs, lying beneath the bark and consisting largely of cellulose and lignin.
