What is the breaking star in the sky which people assume the best time to wish?

when people see a star moving very fastly in the sky for a few seconds, they call it breaking star and they wish at that time.is it really a star or any aircraft very high in the sky or something like that?

We call it a shooting star. thats when you make a wish.Sometimes you see a satellite but it moves slower .

i call it a shooting star. when a meteor enters the Earth's atmosphere it it is destroyed and burns up leaving a trail of light which you see as a 'shooting star'
