Due to the oil revenue trusts the state of Alaska has enough money to pay each of it's citizens at tax time to live in the state and have enough left over for a surplus. Since oil prices have spiked has the surplus spiked? and what is the surplus?

  1. Palin helped push through a windfall profits tax on oil companies, and the states revenue soared.  Therefore, budget surpluss is pretty big I imagine.

  2. It's in the billions according to my link.

  3. Surplus is the revenue collected by a state or federal government that exceeds what they spend.  If they take in one dollar and spend 70 cents they have a surplus of 30 cents.  Alaska has a huge surplus because of the oil tax that they collect from the big oil companies.
