What is the building you bet at called in horse racing?

I'm writing a monologue for english about someone betting on horses and I've never been to a race track. Also what is someone who works in that building called? Thanks!

  1. At British tracks there tends to be a betting ring where the various bookmakers (more commonly known as bookies) each have a pitch. You will also find a hut or building where the 'Tote' is based. This is a bookmaker which uses the British version of pari-mutuel betting.

    Bookies sometimes refer to themselves as 'turf accountants' although losing punters have various names for them!
